Water tank action for fires MIJAS
MIJAS has been ravaged by severe fires for more than a week. This week the fires came very close. The evacuation plan for a potential nightmare is ready. The team in Spain uses water hoses to keep our refugio as cool as possible. But the fear is there!
Need puppy food!!!
At the moment so many puppies are coming in that the food cannot be dragged along. The refugio is overcrowded, so we have to say NO more and more often. An emergency call has been made from the refugio to donate puppy food, or to collect money so that we can buy in Spain ourselves. Who helps us by making a donation? We (Ann & Myriam) are a few days in the shelter of www.ace-charity.org, and noticed that the fleece blankets for the dogs and cats are almost gone. The nights are cold in the shelter, and bad weather is coming. So we would like to provide them with a whole stock of warm fleece blankets from Ikea by Christmas! 24 Hour(s) in a Doghouse - Kelly & Mitch
On May 10, volunteer Mitch and caretaker Kelly will spend more than 24 hours in a cage in our refugio. They will only bring water, a bucket and toilet paper, and sleeping gear, and no mobile phone, tablet, watch or book. They will eat (from a bowl) with the dogs. For example, they draw attention to the lives of the millions of dogs that stay in shelters, dogs that were once welcome with their owner, but who suddenly became too much for one reason or another, got in the way. These dogs were unsuspectingly dumped by their owners. They are now locked up between 4 walls and bars, surrounded by barking and howling all the time. Hours, days of endless boredom pass, where they have to fish for every bit of attention, for a pat from a caretaker or volunteer. And hoping that that one person, that one owner notices them, gives them a chance at a new life... We will follow Mitch and Kelly closely, and interview them regularly. Since we only live on donations, they hope to bring in some money for our loved ones. That will definitely make their stay more bearable!
